YouTube Week Kicks Off in Lagos With Awards for Local Creators


YouTube Week has officially kicked off in Lagos, the whole week is full of a lot of fun activities. Some of these fun activities include content premiers, fan meet and greets and an award show. YouTube Nigeria also plans to award a number of Gold and Silver Play Buttons to local YouTube Creators during YouTube Week in Lagos.

What to Expect from the YouTube Week in Lagos

The YouTube week in Lagos is a week-long boot camp, it commenced on the 17th of June. It would end with a ceremony and wrap party on Friday, 21 June. At the event, YouTube will be covering topics such as channel & content strategy, working with brands, creator responsibility, production, and accelerating growth on YouTube.  There will also be a public YouTube Masterclass which will be held on Saturday, for registered participants.

Throughout the YouTube week, the platform plans to premiere new original series. Some of these the original series include D’Banj ‘Adventures KokoMaster, the ‘Brotherhood’ from Accelerate TV, the SceneOne ‘Ayetoro’ series and an evening with Tuface Idibia.  At the weeklong boot camp, fans will get the chance to meet, greet and engage with some of their local YouTube creators. Some of these creators include Abisola Aiyeola, Tobi Bakare, Layefa Beauty, and Zeelicious Foods.

At YouTube Week, Gold Play Buttons will also be awarded to local creators. It will be given to channels which have reached the one million subscriber mark. The Silver Play buttons will be given to those who have garnered 100,000 subscribers.

Addy Awofisayo, the YouTube partnership manager spoke about the weeklong boot camp. She talked about how Nigeria has a culture that is steeped in sharing and storytelling. Awofisayo talked about Nigerian’s passion for music, entertainment and education. She talked about how since the video platform launched, they have provided a platform for Nigerians to share the country’s unique and diverse culture on a global stage. They have also offered Nigerian users more relevant content. She expressed the brand’s excitement to be bringing YouTube’s Creator community and fans together. They have brought them together to share, learn and celebrate YouTube. They are also celebrating the local creators who are taking the Nigerian culture to the world.
