Welcome to Sekere’s Podcast, On this episode, the Sekere Team and their guest will be sharing their opinions on Jordan Peele’s US movie.
Christiana: Hello, Welcome to Sekere News podcast. My name is Christians and I’ll be your host for today.
Christiana: My guest today is Imoh, the Head of Brand Communications at a media firm and a big movie enthusiast. Today we will be reviewing the Us movie by Jordan Pele, he is the writer and director of the critically acclaimed movie Get Out. The US movie stars Lupita Nyong’o, Winston Duke and Isabel Elisabeth Moss.
Christiana: It’s about a family of four who was on vacation and by themselves being hunted by their doppelgangers. I don’t want to give too much away. But if that’s a very very brief summary of the movie. So Imoh, what do you think about the movie?
Imoh: So far… I’ll say it was an okay movie… It had a lot of expectation and a lot of hype and praise towards it.
Imoh: So the movie started off well and kept everyone edge of their seats… with the way the movie unravelled, it left a little more to be desired. It didn’t really hit it hard as a horror movie as we all expected it. It would have gone better as a comedy plot with all that happened within it.
Imoh: For me, the best part of the movie was the home invasion were Lupita Nyongo actually brought out her great performance acting both roles and putting up an impeccable performance. The plot twist didn’t really hit hard for me, the movie had a lot of loopholes and unanswered questions.
Imoh: Though, they tried a lot to reference and touch on a lot of societal issues and other bunny holes throughout the movie.
Imoh: So for me, I would say it was an average movie and nowhere as good as Get Out probably since I expected a lot from it and they didn’t deliver.
Christiana: First of all, I would like to start with saying I am not a horror fan, I try to stay away from horror movies because I do not like scary movies at all. But because I wanted to try something new… I decided to do the US movie and also I never watch the Get out the movie so I had no prior expectations unlike Imoh going into the movie.
Imoh: You should see Get Out It is really nice.
Christiana: Okay, so I should definitely put that on my watch list.
Christiana: Then for the…. Horror-wise I think it was not scary at all. It was the type of you expect from a horror movie. It wasn’t the type of scary you would expect from a horror movie.
Christiana: Horror movies are usually very scary, creepy and give you these types of feelings. I would think the movie was more like a thriller, so if you avoid horror movies you can definitely watch this one because it wasn’t that scary. You will not have bad nightmares. You will not have any creepy feelings afterwards.
Christiana: What else did I think about the movie? The movie started out really slow for me, unlike Imoh who said it starts out fast. For me, it was kind of slow but It picked up to me when the doppelgangers showed up at the house during the home invasion scene. Christiana: As Imoh said it was very…. the whole scene during thevhome invasion was very thrilling. I would say that storyline was very compelling, engaging, it was definitely very interesting and entertaining. It was very thrilling. I was very invested in the characters and their doppelgangers.
Christiana: I was very curious to find out what happened at the beginning, what would happen in the future and what would happen at that point in time during the whole home invasion and when the doppelganger was attacking them.
Christiana: The movie was full of a lot of metaphors and it was more…. Like I said, it wasn’t exactly a horror movie, it was more of a social commentary from Jordan Peele and he was trying to talk about the US. Class system. So the movie is full of lot of metaphors that you might probably miss.
Christiana: I think you need to watch the movie over and over again to get some of these things that he was trying to talk about and trying to address.
Christiana: For me, character wise. I really like the daughter as herself. I think she did a fantastic job as herself and asked the double.
Imoh: I prefer the double
Christiana: You prefer the double?
Imoh: I like her smile.
Christiana: Yes she has a very creepy smile.
Christiana: Another performance was Lupita Nnyong’os performance as the mother and as the double. She was…her performance was very haunting, very chilling and the little boy also I liked him as the dopple, it was very creepy…. It was a very very creepy performance, he did a very good job.
Christiana: if you talk about the issues, I had I think it left… coming out of the movies, I think you have a lot of questions. You be thinking through it…more than it answered some of your questions. If you’re coming out of you you’re going to be asking so many questions. So if this t happened, why did this happen? You have lot of questions to ask yourself at the end of the movie and they didn’t address a lot of things. Like at the end of movie, you would still be wondering what happened to… I don’t give too much away. But what happened to the other doubles…like what’s going to…
Imoh: Yeah…how did they all come together?
Christiana: How did they all come together, you are going to have a lot of questions that you are going to ask at the end of the movie. So that’s one of the thing I had…but to me it was an okay movie and the twist at the end was… as Imoh said it was a good twist, but the impact wasn’t that significance but it was a very interesting twist… so overall i think it was a good movie…it was really good movie but not the best but it was okay if I should rate it…I think I would give it a 7 over 10….Imoh
Imoh: For me… You are very nice…I think I will give it a 5…
Imoh: Yeah a 5,
Christiana: A 5 over 10
Imoh: Yes a 5 over 10
Christiana: Okay, so you’ve heard from me and Imoh… if you’ve watched the movie and you have similar thoughts or you have other things to say, you do not agree with our review. Please leave a comment below. Thank you very much for listening and Imoh. Thank you for coming
Imoh: Thanks for having me.
