About the Pornhub Reports of Disturbing and Illegal Content

According to recent reports about Pornhub, the site is awash with secretly filmed “creepshots” of schoolgirls and clips of men performing sex acts in front of teenagers on buses.  The reports also claim that the site has hosted indecent images of children as young as three. The reports were made by The Times. Pornhub says it bans content showing under-18s and removes it swiftly.  But some of the videos identified by The Times had 350,000 views and had been on the platform for more than three years. Three of the worst clips that were flagged to Pornhub still remained on the site 24 hours later.

As the reports broke, many people have accused the site of enabling paedophiles to share illegal content by allowing user uploads of unvetted footage which can rack up thousands of views before being taken down. The sites vice president Blake White has spoken up about the reports. He stated that oftentimes videos described as ‘hidden camera footage’ or ‘young teen’ are in fact legal, consensual videos that are produced to cater to various user fantasies. White explained that the videos are in fact protected by various freedom of speech laws. Certain words are banned from being used in titles and tags, and they will be doing a thorough audit of their websites to update and expand the list.

Unilever

Following the reports, Unilever has distanced itself from the adult site. The brand ran a campaign for its subscription razor service Dollar Shave Club. The campaign message read  “If you use our bathroom products you won’t have to visit this site as much.” Unilever has disassociated itself from the website as a result of these reports. According to the company’s spokesperson, the reports are deeply troubling and they are ensuring that none of their brands advertises on Pornhub again, or on any other porn sites.

Kraft Heinz

Kraft Heinz has also distanced itself from the adult site after they took over Pornhub’s homepage for a day to promote its frozen food brand Devour. They made the announcement through a spokesperson to the reports. They stated that they pledge not to advertise or promote any of its brands on this site or other similar sites. The Devour frozen food brand, which is only sold in the U.S., had a one-day promotion solely as part of the brand’s Super Bowl activation. The brand was explicitly talking about #Foodporn, which has become a cultural phenomenon on Instagram.
