From now to the 15th of May 2019, the Brand Foundation in New York will be presenting a solo exhibition on Jean-Michel Basquiat. They will be presenting works from the iconic Jean-Michel Basquiat to celebrate the inauguration of its new space. The new space is located in New York City’s East Village at 421 East 6th Street. The new space occupies a century-old building originally designed as a substation for Consolidated Edison.
About the Jean-Michel Basquiat Solo Exhibition at The Brant Foundation
The solo exhibition of Jean-Michel Basquiat has been showing since the 15th of March and would last through till the 15th of May 2019. It is being organized in collaboration with the Foundation Louis Vuitton and curated by Brant Foundation founder Peter M. Brant and Dr Dieter Buchhart. According to the brand Foundation, the exhibition will bring together Jean-Michel Basquiat’s most important masterworks from the Brant Collections. Basquiat’s work from International museums and private collections will also be featured in the exhibition.
According to the exhibition’s curator Dr Buchhart, the exhibition will show Basquiat as a resolutely contemporary artist. We would see how he created a foretaste of our Internet society. According to Dr Buchhart, we would see how he did this by using cut-and-paste sampling from his surroundings. Dr Buchart when talking about the exhibition talked about Basquiat’s artistic practice. He stated that with the astonishing radicalness of his artistic practice, Basquiat was able to renew the concept of art with enduring impact. Attendees will be able to see how he did that at the exhibition.
About Jean-Michel Basquiat
Jean-Michel Basquiat was an American painter of Haitian and Puteo Rican Descent. He was a Neo-Expressionist painter in the 1980s, he was born in 1960 in Brooklyn New York. He sold sweatshirts and postcards featuring his artwork on the streets before his painting career took off. Basquiat died of a drug overdose when he was 27 years old. Some of his most well-known and Popular work include SAMO Graffiti, Ten Punching Bags and Flexible.
