Nike’s very controversial “Dream Crazy” ad which stars sports star Colin Kaepernick recently won an Emmy. The “Dream Crazy” ad is an extension of the brand’s popular “Just Do It” Campaign. The ad won an Emmy Award for outstanding commercial on Sunday at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards.
Nike Wins Emmy for Colin Kaepernick Ad
Since the release of the very controversial “Dream Crazy” ad with Colin Kaepernick, the ad has been racking up the accolades. It has received accolades like the first-ever Entertainment Lions for Sport Grand Prix, the Outdoor Lions Grand Prix as well as two Gold Social & Influencer Lions, a Gold Entertainment Lions for Sport, Gold Film Craft Lion, Bronze Creative Strategy Lion, and a Bronze campaign Outdoor Lions campaign.
The Emmy Award for outstanding commercial is the latest award in a long list of accolades. To win the award Nike and Colin Kaepernick beat out Apple, Netflix and Sandy Hook. Apple had two awards which were nominated for the award. It’s “Make Something Wonderful” from the Behind the Mac campaign and “Don’t Mess with Mother,” a Shot in iPhone spot were all nominated for the award. Netflix’s “A Great Day in Hollywood” was also nominated. While Sandy Hook Promise’s “Point of View” on gun violence also received a nomination.

The “Dream Crazy” ad was created by Wieden & Kennedy Portland. It was produced out of Park Pictures and Joint Portland. As you know the ad was narrated by Colin Kaepernick but it also featured other sports stars. It featured sports stars like Serena Williams and LeBron James, all athletes who have reached beyond their personal achievements to support and advance social causes.
This award win has become the fifth spot Emmy won by Wieden+Kennedy. Wieden + Kennedy has received 19 Emmy nominations over the years. This award win is the first Emmy win for Park Pictures.
