Netflix’s low-cost mobile-only subscription will roll out in India in the next three months. The low-cost mobile-only subscription was created to help attract new customers to the service. The introduction of the low-cost mobile-only subscription in India follows a very similar trail the streaming site did across Asia. With the low-cost mobile-only subscription, the streaming site is trying to accelerate its growth in the booming India market. The brand needs to accelerate its growth especially after it suffered a loss of 130,000 subscribers in the US.
Netflix is not the only company who is hoping to grow in India in a bid to raise its global subscriber numbers. Other companies have been trying to use this market to bolster its global subscriber numbers. Companies like Spotify who launched in India earlier this year provided users with free access. Another company which is trying to leverage the Indian market is Amazon. They offered a bundled deal including Prime Video with Prime memberships in India when the launched.
