The Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity recently announced that Jeff Goodby and Rich Silverstein, the founders of Goodby Silverstein & Partners, will be the recipients of the Lion of St. Mark Award at the 2019 Festival.

St. Mark Award
The Lion of St. Mark is an award, usually awarded for a lifetime of service to creativity in communications. It is given each year at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity and was instituted in 2011. Many great industry vets have received this prestigious award. Its recipients include Piyush Pandey, David Droga, Marcello Serpa, Sir Jonh Hegarty, Bob Greenberg and Dan Weiden.
Cannes Lions Announces Jeff Goodby and Rich Silverstein as the Recipients of the Lion of St. Mark Awards.
The announcement was made by the chairman Philip Thomas the chairman of Cannes Lions. While making the announcement, he stated that the Lion of St. Mark award is a special award that honours those who have made a significant and outstanding contribution to creativity in advertising and communications over a lifelong career. He spoke about how Jeff Goodby and Rich Silverstein have had profound influence from their much celebrated and creatively groundbreaking work. Thomas explained how these two industry vets have inspired so many people with the work they have created. He praised their legacy, calling it remarkable and expressed the festivals delight to celebrate and reward their achievements.
About Jeff Goodby and Rich Silverstein
Jeff Goodby and Rich Silverstein together with Andy Berlin founded Goody Berlin and Silverstein. The agency eventually became Goodby Silverstein & Partners in 1994. They both started their careers in journalism. Jeff Goodby was an Illustrator while Rich Silverstein was an art director. Jeff Goodby and Rich Silverstein both met at Ogilvy and Mather where they were under Hal Riney. They both left to start Goodby Silverstein & Partners. They’ve won numerous awards including numerous Cannes Lions Awards. They came up with the iconic “Got Milk?” Campaign.

Goodby credited their staff and Culture at Goodby Silverstein & Partners to their success. He credited the change in the industry to people who have gone through the agency.
