Instagram’s new checkout feature is finally here, now users can now buy products directly from the app. With Instagram’s new checkout feature, users don’t need to visit the retailer’s website to complete a purchase. It allows users to buy products directly from a brand’s shoppable posts.

Instagram’s new checkout feature is still in its testing phase and is not open to all retailers. During the testing phase, the feature will only be available to 23 brands. Some of these brands include Adidas, Prada, Dior, Zara, Kylie Cosmetics, Nike, MAC, Michael Kors and Oscar de la Renta. Instagram’s new checkout feature will only be available to users in the USA. The feature will only appear in unpaid posts and stories. It won’t be available in ads. The items that are available for in-app checkout now have a big blue “Checkout on Instagram” button below.

To purchase the item, users can tap on the button. They will be required to fill in their email address so that the retailer can complete the order. From there, you can enter your delivery information and preferred payment method. Once you have filled in all your information and reviewed it, you can then place your order. Right now Instagram’s new checkout feature is only accepting information stored with Facebook. Users have raised concerns about their payment information being shared. Facebook has responded, assuring users that their payment information won’t be shared with other users or retailers.

Instagram Speaks on Its Checkout Feature

According to an Instagram product manager Layla Amjadi, the vision of the feature and Instagram shopping as a whole is to have checkout be available to any business on Instagram. Their goal is to fulfil one of their biggest asks (Instagram’s new checkout feature) since the inception of Instagram shopping.

She stated that users will have the option to save the credit card details or delete them from the system. Amajadi also stated the buyers will need to use a pin number to finish checking out. This is step adds an extra level of security. She has revealed that they will only be sharing info that is absolutely necessary to get the product delivered. This types of information include the user’s name and address. Instagram plans to leave it up to their users to include loyalty program information and e-mail addresses.
