Instagram plans to stop the practice of recommending content which flirts with the boundaries of its own guidelines. The decision to do this comes after the social media platform was accused of exposing children to harmful content through its Explore section.

By doing this Instagram wants to make it hard for content in the grey area of inappropriateness to gain traction. Such grey area content will still be allowed to appear on the user’s personal feed as long as the user is following the account which posts its. According to the social media platform, they will be stopping grey area content like sexually suggestive posts, violent and graphic content. They will also be stopping content that’s deemed to be spam. The social media platform also plans to clamp down on content that spreads misinformation.
