Google recently announced a new voice for its Google Assistant. Google will have actress, writer and producer Issa Rae making a cameo on Google Assistant. She follows singer John Legend who also lent his voice the voice assistant in April.

Issa Rae is the Next Voice of Google Assistant.

According to the tech giants, Issa Rae will be lending her voice to the voice assistant. The feature will be available for a limited time in the U.S. starting today. Users will be able to ask for certain information from Issa Rae. They can ask questions about the weather, news, jokes, motivational messages and answers to questions like, “When’s the first day of winter?”. Users can ask Issa Rae questions like:

  • “ … do I need an umbrella today?”
  • “ … tell me a secret.”
  • “ … what do you think of me?”
  • “ … give me a quote from Issa Rae.”
  • “ … sing a song.”
  • “ … do you have any dating advice?”
  • Or “How do I look?” for “a confidence-boosting affirmation.”

All other responses except for the Easter eggs below will remain in one of the original Assistant voices.

According to the tech giants, they will be pushing the new feature on Instagram. They will be sharing exclusive sneak peeks into Issa’s life on set. When asked why the selected the actress to lend her voice to Google Assistant. The tech giants didn’t reveal much on the reason.  Issa Rae will likely be the first female celebrity to lend her voice to a digital assistant from Amazon or Google.  When the tech giants were asked about the actress being the first female voice. Google stated that it doesn’t think of Google Assistant as having a particular gender. This fact is reflected in the name, Google Assistant. It offers 12 voices for Google Assistant including Rae and Legend, which Google said represents a diverse mix.

Google’s announcement comes after Amazon announced that Samuel L Jackson will be lending its voice to its voice assistant Alexa.
