To pay tribute to the premiere of Game of Thrones final season, Foxtel recently ran an epic experiential event called Grave of Thrones. For the Grave of Thrones activation/ experiential event, Foxtel built a graveyard to honour all the key characters who have been killed of the Game of Thrones show. The Grave of Thrones event was held/ built in Sydney to celebrate the series final season which will premiere exclusively on Foxtel on Mondays.
About the Grave of Thrones Event
To celebrate the premiere of the final season of Game of Thrones, Foxtel together with DDB Sydney built a 2000 square metre graveyard. DDB Sydney built the graveyard in collaboration with the Revolver/ Will O’Rourke and The Glue Society. The graveyard pays tribute to the bloodshed and more than 100,00 deaths which have occurred over the past seven seasons. The Grave of Thrones was built inside the Centennial Park in Syndey and was opened from the 12th to the 14th of April. Grave of Thrones was also called the final resting place. It was created to give fans the opportunity to reflect on the deaths of the show’s most iconic faces. The activation event was promoted online through the ‘Grave of Thrones’ website and a set of social films and images. The website had an interactive map to help visitors navigate through the honorary graveyard.
What Guests were treated to at the Event
The honorary graveyard featured more than 30 gravestones which included two grand family mausoleums. The family mausoleums housed the deceased members of House Stark and House Baratheon. It also features the headstones of some of GoT’s most infamous characters. There were maps of the graves and an audio tour available to help people understand the detail behind each sculpture. Foxtel encouraged visitors to bring tributes to the fallen heroes.
Every single grave, headstone and sculpture were created with the utmost detail. The details referenced very closely the lives and deaths of the characters featured. Some of the headstones and gravestones featured include Joffrey Baratheon, Ramsay Bolton, Khal Drogo, Tywin Lannister, Littlefinger, Olenna Tyrell. Hodor’s head which honours one of the shows most beloved characters were also featured.
