The 71st annual Emmy Awards is going to be held on the 22nd of September and the nominees were recently announced. Almost everyone who would be tuning in for the award show will be rooting for hit shows like Veep, Game of Thrones and When They See Us. But marketers would generally be interested in the outstanding commercial award. That’s where the real action lies for marketers watching the Emmys. Emmy Ad Nominee: Apple
Two ads from Apple were nominated for the Outstanding Commercial Emmy. The ads were from the longtime agency TBWA\Media Arts Lab. Nike’s “Make Something Wonderful” from the Behind the Mac campaign and “Don’t Mess with Mother,” a Shot in iPhone spot that launched on Earth Day were both nominated.
Emmy Ad Nominee: Nike
As expected Nike’s controversial “Dream Crazy” which stars Colin Kaepernick was also nominated. The ad was created by creative agency Wieden + Kennedy Portland.
Emmy Ad Nominee: Sandy Hook
Another nominee for the Outstanding Commercial is Sandy Hook Promise’s “Point of View”. The ad continued agency BBDO New York’s years-long series of attention-grabbing, long-form PSAs.
Emmy Ad Nominee: Netflix
Netflix’s “A Great Day in Hollywood” was also nominated, the ad was from creative agency Kamp Grizzly.
At last year’s Emmy winner for Outstanding Commercial was P&G’s “The Talk”. The ad was advanced conversations around racial inequality in America. P&G recently continued the conversation about racial bias with another ad titled “The Look.” Last year’s nominees were:
