It was recently announced that Disney will be moving its US media planning and buying business for some newly acquired Fox assets. Disney will be moving the acquired Fox assets accounts to Omnicom-owned OMD. OMD will be handling the media planning and buying for some of Fox assets for the 2019-2020 upfronts. OMD took away the planning and buying duties from Publicis Media’s Zenith and MDC Partners Assembly. Seeing as the previously handled the Fox assets account.
Disney Sends 20th Century Fox Media Business to OMD
OMD will now be the media agency-of-record for Twentieth Century Fox Film Corp., Fox Searchlight Pictures and Fox Entertainment Group. According to several sources, this is the first step in a larger step by Disney to streamline the planning and buying business following the acquisition. Sources say that this deal is a temporary plan. A Disney rep stated that this is an interim agreement with OMD which will see OMD represent Disney and Fox studios for 2019 Upfront purposes only.
When an OMD rep was asked to comment about the appointment, he deferred the comment to the client. Zenith also declined to comment about the new arrangement.
OMD is a global media communications agency. It is a subsidiary of Omnicom Group and is the unit that handles Omnicom Group’s media services. They have been the media agency of record for Disney’s movie divisions including Pixar, Marvel Studios, Lucasfilm and Walt Disney Studios since 2013. The agency won the accounts without a review
Zenith agency is an ROI agency and is part of the Publicis Media network. They have handled the buying duties for the film and home entertainment divisions of Twentieth Century Fox in the U.S. and Canada following the completion of a 21st Century Fox North American media review in 2016.
