Details about Apples Plan to Increase Battery Capacity on 2019 iPhones
According to sources, a very high up analyst Ming-Chi Kuo sent a note to investors. The note stated that Apple would be using larger batteries on all the three models of phones debuting in September 2019. Apple is said to stick with the current three-model lineup that includes 5.8-inch, 6.1-inch, and 6.5-inch models. According to sources the designs are most likely to remain largely the same, but most of the improvements are expected under the hood.
Ming-Chi Kuo stated that iPhone XS, which currently features a 2,658 mAh battery, would come with a battery whose capacity would be increased by up to 25 per cent. For the iPhone XS Max, the battery is said to be upgraded by around 15 per cent. While for iPhone XR which runs on a 2,942 mAh battery would receive the smallest increase of just 5 per cent.

According to sources, the reason behind the upgrades on the iPhone XS and the XS Max is because Apple wants to add bilateral wireless charging. Though it is already available on a series of Android devices, like Samsung Galaxy S10, bilateral wireless charging allows a smartphone to wirelessly charge other devices using their own batteries. According to sources Apple wants to provide users with the added convenience of charging the Apple Watch or the AirPods on the go whenever a standard charger can’t be used. When they increase the battery capacity, Apple will be trying to make sure that charging other devices wouldn’t substantially impact the experience with the iPhone.
According to sources, Apple has already reached out to a series of partners for this iPhone upgrade. Some of these partners include Compaq, Unimicron, and TTM, all of which are supposed to help increase the battery capacity of the 2019 models and make bilateral wireless charging happen.
