BMW and Alibaba recently unveiled a fully and seamless integrated intelligent voice assistant that will be a fixture in some select BMW cars. The made this big reveal at the Consumer Electronics Show 2019 (CES) in Las Vegas. The voice assistant which is called Tmall Genie Assistant will be available in select BMW cars in China by the end of 2019. This partnership will make BMW the first premium car brand to integrate the cloud intelligent voice assistant by Alibaba into their cars.

Tmall Genie Assistant and BMW
The Tmall Genie Assistant will be available in select BMW cars in China by the end of 2019. This follows the integration of BMW connected (which was launched in 2016) into Alibaba’s ecosystem. The integration of the Tmall Genie Assistant into BMW cars will allow BMW customers with a Tmall Genie-compatible device at home to access their digital lives from the cars. BMW customers will be use the voice assistant with BMW’s display screen, which can show text and images.
The integration of the BMW car and the cloud intelligent voice assistant now offers customers a variety of in-car entertainment and shopping options. With the device customers can perform a variety of actions from the comfort of their cars. They can call up appointments that are saved on their BMW connected mobility agenda. BMW and Tmall Genie Assistant customers can place online orders, view cinema listing, check the weather, play their favorite playlist. They will also be able to access all information on their Tmall Genie.
Users wouldn’t need a smartphone to use the cloud intelligent voice assistant in the BMW cars. All BMW models come with an embedded SIM card, this will allow for a seamless integration and permanent online availability.

According to a statement by the VP Digital Services and Product of BMW group Dieter May, This integration will see BMW reaching a new milestone in China. This new milestone is in terms of intelligent connectivity between the customer’s vehicles and their digital touch point. He stated that the integration will open possibilities for their customers.
The VP of the Alibaba Group Miffy Chen said that among their collaborations with premium car brand, that the group is very glad that BMW will be the first automaker to integrate their voice assistant. He expressed the groups excitement to be working with BMW to create a personalized mobile experience for their customers.
